Withdrawal Policy
If you voluntarily withdraw from all courses after the add/drop period, you may receive a partial reduction of tuition and fees (student, school, and technology) according to the date of withdrawal as follows:
Fall 2024 Semester

September 3 - September 16: 100%

September 17 - September 30: 80%

October 1 - October 14: 60%

October 15 - October 28: 40%

Thereafter: 0%
Spring 2025 Semester

January 21 - February 3: 100%

February 4 - February 17: 80%

February 18 - March 3: 60%

March 4 - March 26: 40%

Thereafter: 0%
Procedure for Withdrawal

Students must follow the University Withdrawal Process, which includes completing an online withdrawal form.

Rutgers University-New Brunswick School of Graduate Studies students must notify their department of their intent to withdraw via written or electronic notice.

Students with federal loans must complete exit counseling.
Withdrawal deadlines are available in the Rutgers–Camden, Rutgers–Newark, and Rutgers–New Brunswick (Undergraduate) or (Graduate) academic calendars.
Please be aware of the following stipulations concerning withdrawals:

The effective date of the withdrawal is the date of submission of the online withdrawal form. However, please allow one to two weeks for processing. If you believe your official withdrawal date should be earlier than the date on the form, and you have documentation regarding your intent to withdraw earlier, please contact your regional One Stop Student Services Center.

No reduction of tuition and fees (campus, school, and computer) is granted after October 28th and March 26th

No reduction of tuition is made after the add/drop period for students who withdraw from one or more courses but remain registered in other classes.

No adjustment is made for students who drop from full-time to part-time credit hours after the add/drop period.

Withdrawal from all courses using the web registration system is not accepted. You must submit the online withdrawal form.

Failure to attend class is not a withdrawal; charges will not be adjusted if students do not attend class.

Students who voluntarily withdraw from all courses will receive a tuition refund as follows:

Prior to start, 0% of term = 100% refund
-
Less than 10% of term = 90% refund
-
10% up to but not including 25% = 75% refund
-
25% up to but not including 50% = 50% refund
-
50% up to but not including 75% = 25% refund
-
More than 75% = no refund
The institution will make a proper refund within 31 days of the student's request for cancellation. If the student has paid tuition extending beyond 12 months, all such charges shall be refunded.

Housing and Dining Adjustments
Before any reductions in room and board charges can be processed, you must first apply to return your room key (with the housing office) and your RU Express Card (with the dining office).
